Machine Gun Kelly closed the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards with a solo performance of “Lonely Road,” the collaboration with Jelly Roll that had just won the ceremony’s Crossover Song award. Jelly Roll was not at the event, so the performance was not a live duet.
How mgk closed the ceremony
At the September 26, 2024 ceremony at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House, mgk—Colson Baker’s stage name—performed “Lonely Road” on his own to close the show. Yahoo Entertainment’s event report and Holler’s performance coverage describe the closing as a solo performance; Jelly Roll did not join him.

The song’s award-show context
“Lonely Road” was released as a collaboration by mgk featuring Jelly Roll, and it won the 2024 People’s Choice Country Award for Crossover Song. BMG’s category coverage lists the song and confirms the ceremony’s date and venue; MusicRow’s winner list also records the award.
The distinction is simple: the award recognized the collaboration, while the closing performance was mgk alone. “Closes the awards” refers to where his performance fell in the ceremony, not to a separate award or a duet segment.
#1 Best Overall
- Tickets To My Downfall is mgk's 5th studio album and his first full project that is unabashedly rooted in pop-punk, following the platinum success of "I Think I'm OKAY
“Lonely Road” beyond the ceremony
The song’s music video was directed by Sam Cahill, according to iHeart’s October 1, 2024 coverage of another performance. That later coverage provides a further point of context for the collaboration, but it does not change what happened at the awards: mgk performed the song solo.
