What did MVP say about Hulk Hogan?
In a May 28, 2025 interview with Liam Solomon for BetIdeas, Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) was asked about a wrestling Mount Rushmore. He said he dislikes the hypothetical because there are so many great wrestlers and the answer comes down to personal preference. He then explained why Hogan would not make his own list:
“There are many people that would make the case that Hulk Hogan should be on it…I think he’s disqualified in my opinion, because…he’s who he is. Self-admitted, unapologetic, so that’s that.”
The words “in my opinion” matter: MVP presented this as a personal assessment, not a definitive judgment about wrestling history.

Why did MVP say Randy Savage belongs?
In the same answer, MVP said Randy “Macho Man” Savage should be included on his list. He did not offer a complete four-person lineup in this exchange. Instead, he named Savage as a pick, ruled Hogan out on personal grounds, and emphasized that the exercise depends on the person making the list.
Did MVP mean a U.S.-only or worldwide Mount Rushmore?
MVP questioned whether such a list should cover only American wrestlers or wrestlers from around the world. He pointed to stars in England, Japan, and Mexico who helped build the business, and compared the choice to naming favorite rappers: people will disagree because they bring different tastes and criteria.

That leaves the scope of any wrestling Mount Rushmore unsettled. A list limited to U.S. wrestling and one drawing from international wrestling traditions would answer different questions. Other criteria—such as influence, achievement, popularity, or era—also need to be chosen before lists can be compared, but MVP did not specify those as his own rules.

Sports Illustrated reported that WWE fired Hogan in 2015 in connection with leaked audio containing racial slurs. That provides context for the controversy surrounding Hogan, but it does not establish every reason behind MVP’s personal view. The direct explanation in the interview is MVP’s own phrasing: “he’s who he is” and “self-admitted, unapologetic.”
