For Japan, Aniplex lists the TV broadcast start as April 6, 2025, at 23:45 on TV Tokyo and affiliated stations. These are separate regional schedules, not competing premiere dates. Aniplex’s listing also records Japanese subscription-streaming starts: U-NEXT, DMM TV, and Anime Hodai from 24:15 on April 6, with additional services, including Netflix and Prime Video, listed from April 9. Those are historical Japanese release details, not confirmation of current availability elsewhere: Aniplex’s broadcast and streaming schedule.
What is Lazarus about?
The story takes place in 2052, after Hapna, a painkiller presented as a miracle drug, has spread widely. Its developer, Dr. Skinner, disappears, then reveals that people who have taken the drug will die. A team of five agents, assembled from around the world and called Lazarus, has 30 days to find Skinner and the sole vaccine. The deadline is a fictional plot element, not a real-world statistic. The premise is outlined in Aniplex’s official series story and Adult Swim’s U.S. announcement.

Who made the series?
Watanabe is credited as both original creator and director. The official announcement identifies him through Cowboy Bebop, the connection behind the series’ familiar shorthand as the new anime from that show’s creator. The production credits listed by Aniplex include:
- Animation: MAPPA
- Planning production: SOLA Entertainment
- Character design: Akemi Hayashi
- Action supervision: Chad Stahelski
- Music contributors: Kamasi Washington, Bonobo, and Floating Points
These credits are listed on Aniplex’s series page.

The announcements establish the original release plans, but they do not verify a current streaming lineup. Adult Swim said Japanese-language episodes with English subtitles would debut in the U.S. on Adult Swim and Max 30 days after their English-language premiere. That was the schedule stated in the 2025 announcement; check the services directly for present availability in your country. Japan’s original broadcast and streaming services are listed separately by Aniplex, and should not be treated as a global guide.
Are Blu-ray, DVD, or soundtracks available?
Aniplex lists Japanese LAZARUS Blu-ray and DVD releases: Volume 1 dated May 21, 2025, and Volume 2 dated July 2, 2025. The dates establish the listed releases, not current stock, a particular retailer’s listing, or compatibility with every player. Before buying an import, check the edition, region compatibility, and seller’s current listing. The releases appear on Aniplex’s products page; the official archive also records the release announcement.
