They covered “California Dreamin’,” the song by The Mamas & the Papas. The performance took place during the 67th GRAMMY Awards at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025. The Associated Press reported that Gaga closed the cover by saying, “We love you California.”
Why did they perform it?
The cover was part of the ceremony’s response to the Los Angeles-area wildfires. The Recording Academy said the telecast was “reimagined to raise funds to support wildfire relief efforts and aid music professionals impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles.” The AP reported that the performance followed a montage of wildfire devastation and appeared in a segment intended to raise awareness and funds for relief.
Was it the same song that won Gaga and Mars a Grammy?
No. “California Dreamin’” was their wildfire-relief cover. Their duet “Die With A Smile” won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the same ceremony; it was a separate song and Grammy moment.
