The allegation was described by news outlets as based on eyewitness accounts and video; it is not an established finding of guilt. Reporting did not establish whether the leg belonged to the person killed.
What happened at the Wasco train station
At about 8 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, Kern County deputies and BNSF Railroad Police responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a train at the Amtrak station in the 700 block of G Street in Wasco. A local account reproduced from BakersfieldNow/KBAK said deputies learned that a man had allegedly removed a leg from the scene, then found and arrested him without incident. The reproduced local report identifies the response location and railroad-police involvement.
Contemporaneous reports said the collision killed an unidentified person and severed a leg. They did not establish that the severed leg belonged to the person who died. Yahoo’s March 26 report, republishing People, explicitly said the connection was unclear.
What witnesses reportedly saw
News reports attributed the claim that the man bit or chewed the leg to eyewitness accounts and video. Yahoo/People quoted witness Jose Ibarra describing a man waving a person’s leg, then chewing and biting it and hitting it against a wall. That is Ibarra’s account as quoted by the outlet, not an official determination of what happened.

E! News’ contemporaneous report likewise described the allegation as based on eyewitnesses and video. The distinction matters: the arrest and reported charges are documented as events, while the alleged conduct remains an allegation in the cited coverage.
Who was arrested
The man was identified in the Yahoo/People report as 27-year-old “Resendo Tellez.” E! News spelled the name “Rosendo Tellez.” Because contemporaneous reports differ, this article preserves each outlet’s spelling rather than treating one as definitive.

What charges were reported
Yahoo/People said Kern County records showed three charges at the time: a misdemeanor charge of “removal of human remains from other than a cemetery,” a misdemeanor charge related to possessing controlled-substance paraphernalia, and a felony charge related to violating probation. E! News reported substantially the same charges.
These were charges reported in March 2024, not convictions or findings of guilt. The cited reports do not establish a later court disposition.
