Madonna and Live Nation were named in a 2024 lawsuit over allegations tied to her March 7 Celebration Tour concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. The plaintiffs’ complaint described the alleged stage content as “pornography without warning,” but that phrase was the plaintiffs’ characterization—not a court finding.
What did the lawsuit allege?
Five plaintiffs—Justen Lipeles, Kevin Gammon, Claudia Benitez, Edward Hakobjanyan and Marcela Veronica Najera—filed a class-action complaint on June 10, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. It named Madonna, whose legal name is Madonna Ciccone, and Live Nation as defendants. The complaint concerned the Celebration Tour and identified the March 7, 2024 Kia Forum show among the events at issue.

The plaintiffs alleged that the concert was advertised to start at 8:30 p.m. but began late; that the venue was hot and uncomfortable; that Madonna lip-synced much of her performance; and that topless women simulated sexual acts on stage without prior warning. The complaint’s phrase “pornography without warning” referred to the plaintiffs’ description of the alleged sexual content. It was not a court’s legal classification of the performance.
The complaint is a pleading: it records what the plaintiffs claimed, not proof that the alleged events happened. The allegations should not be treated as established facts.

What did Lipeles say about the concert?
In its May 31, 2024 report, The Guardian reported that Lipeles said he bought four tickets for $500 each and that the show began at 10 p.m., rather than the stated 8:30 p.m. The Guardian also described the complaint’s allegations about heat, lip-syncing and simulated sex acts. The ticket price and start time are reported claims attributed to Lipeles, not findings by a court.
What legal claims and remedies were requested?
The complaint asserted several legal theories, including breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, negligence, false advertising and unfair competition. These were claims for the court to consider, not conclusions that the defendants were liable.

The Guardian reported that Lipeles sought compensatory damages, legal costs and a refund. Those were requested remedies; they should not be confused with damages or a refund awarded by a court.
What is known about the case’s outcome?
The available sources establish that the complaint was filed on June 10, 2024, but do not establish the lawsuit’s final disposition or current appellate status as of October 8, 2026. Accordingly, no outcome should be inferred here. The Guardian said Madonna and Live Nation had not commented when its story was published on May 31, 2024; that dated report does not establish their position today.

How does the lawsuit fit into the Celebration Tour?
The Guardian reported that the Celebration Tour concluded after 80 dates, generated $225 million in ticket revenue and drew an estimated 1.6 million people to its free finale at Copacabana Beach. Those are figures reported by The Guardian, not independently verified tour accounting in the cited coverage. They provide context for the tour’s scale, but do not bear on whether the plaintiffs’ allegations are true or on the legal merits of the case.
