In an April 2025 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she described marks from several operations—including a mastectomy and lung surgeries—as evidence that she survived. She also recounted the separate, painful aftermath of hardened fat she attributed to CoolSculpting.
What Linda Evangelista said about being proud of her scars
In Linda Wells’s April 24, 2025 Harper’s Bazaar interview, Evangelista spoke about her scars with acceptance: “I’m cool. I’m fine with those. I won. I’m here. I won.” The story describes her as seeming proud of her marks, and she names scars associated with a mastectomy, lung surgeries, keloids, chest tubes and a C-section.
That list matters: the interview discusses scars with different surgical origins. It does not establish that every visible mark in the photographs—or every scar Evangelista accepts—came from CoolSculpting. Her words frame scars as marks of survival, rather than as proof that the cosmetic procedure itself was a positive experience. Read the Harper’s Bazaar interview.
What she reported about CoolSculpting
Evangelista has said that after CoolSculpting she developed hardened fat and underwent repeated procedures to address it. In the 2025 interview, she recounted repeated liposuction and other surgeries, including four procedures under her chin. This is her reported personal history, not an independently reviewed medical record or a description of what typically happens to patients.

A February 16, 2022 Washington Post report described her lawsuit’s allegation that she had seven treatment sessions between August 2015 and February 2016. The report also said she described two corrective liposuction rounds as painful and unsuccessful. Those are allegations and accounts reported at the time, not findings of a court. What the medical term PAH means
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration describes paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) as a complication in which fatty tissue in a treated area grows instead of shrinking. The resulting hard bulge may resemble the shape of the applicator. Reported cases have appeared two to five months after treatment; FDA says PAH does not go away on its own and may require surgery. This general guidance should not be taken as a diagnosis of Evangelista or any other individual.

The FDA describes cryolipolysis, or fat freezing, as a prescription-use procedure that cools a targeted area of pinchable fat with an applicator. It says non-invasive body contouring is not an obesity treatment and does not produce weight loss; results may be temporary or fall short of expectations. The safety and effectiveness of over-the-counter or home-use fat-freezing devices have not been established. FDA also says fat freezing should not be used in or near hernias or structurally weak areas, including surgical scars. See FDA guidance on non-invasive body contouring.

The company’s figure is a manufacturer-published estimate, not a universal regulator estimate. The two study figures are reported secondhand here through the 2022 Washington Post story, which quoted researchers warning that PAH may be underreported and misdiagnosed. Because a treatment, a treatment cycle and a patient are different denominators—and the figures come from different evidence and dates—they should not be averaged or presented as a single definitive current rate.
