Before the February 15, 2026 NBA All-Star Game in Inglewood, California, LeBron James praised Deni Avdija’s play and offered a brief, positive comment about Israel. News outlets reported online criticism afterward, but the available coverage does not quantify how widely the reaction spread or show that the remarks represented a detailed position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
What did LeBron James say about Israel?
In a pregame exchange reported by The Jerusalem Post on February 16, 2026, James said he hoped to inspire fans in Israel and described what he had heard about the country. The outlet quoted him saying: “Like I said, I’ve never been over there, but I heard nothing but great things.”
Al Jazeera’s February 17 video report also described James saying he had heard “nothing but great things” about Israel and reported backlash afterward. The available reports provide the wording as attributed quotations; they do not point to an official transcript or primary video page for the full exchange.
What was the basketball context?
The exchange centered on Deni Avdija, whose All-Star selection brought attention to his season. James praised Avdija’s performance, telling reporters, “He’s playing exceptional basketball. So that’s that,” according to The Jerusalem Post. A question about Israeli fans then prompted James to speak about hoping to inspire them and his impression of Israel.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That context matters: the reported remarks were a short response tied to Avdija and fans, not an extended discussion of the region’s politics.
Why was James criticized?
The Jerusalem Post and Al Jazeera both reported online backlash following James’s comments. The coverage reviewed here does not establish a measurable scale for that response, identify how representative it was, or provide a quantified virality figure. It is therefore more precise to describe the reaction as reported online criticism than to treat it as a measure of broader public opinion.

The remarks concerned Avdija, Israeli fans, and James’s stated impression of Israel. They do not, on their own, establish a comprehensive position by James on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

James’s February 2026 remarks are separate from a statement he and business partner Maverick Carter issued in October 2023 about violence in Israel. Fox News reported that the statement said: “The devastation in Israel is tragic and unacceptable.” That earlier statement addressed a different event and should not be conflated with the All-Star media exchange.
