Shopify removed Kanye West’s Yeezy.com storefront on February 11, 2025, after the site displayed a $20 white T-shirt bearing a black swastika. Shopify publicly said the merchant had violated its terms and had not engaged in authentic commerce practices. A contemporaneous Los Angeles Times report separately said an internal memo cited potential fraud; Shopify did not publicly identify the specific term at issue.
What happened to Yeezy.com?
During Super Bowl LIX, an advertisement shown in a local market directed viewers to Yeezy.com. The site initially displayed a range of Yeezy merchandise, according to contemporaneous reporting. It later showed a single item: a white shirt with a black swastika, listed for $20. The price was the listed price, not evidence of sales or revenue. CBS News and The Washington Post reported the site’s change and the shirt’s price.
On Tuesday, February 11, Shopify removed the merchant. Yeezy.com then displayed an unavailable message, as reported at the time by TechCrunch and CBS News.
What reason did Shopify give?
An unnamed Shopify spokesperson told TechCrunch and CBS News: “This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms so we removed them from Shopify.” That was the company’s public explanation. The contemporaneous reports did not identify the specific term Shopify said had been violated. TechCrunch

What the reported internal memo said
The Los Angeles Times reported that an internal Shopify memo cited potential fraud as the rationale for the removal. It also reported that a spokesperson did not immediately clarify which terms had been violated. This account of an internal memo is distinct from Shopify’s public statement; the company’s quoted public explanation did not itself say the storefront was removed specifically because the shirt bore a swastika. What happened to listings on eBay?
Fast Company reported that eBay removed listings for the shirt after the publication contacted the company. An eBay spokesperson said the company had “zero-tolerance for items that promote anti-Semitism or hate of any kind,” and described eBay’s Offensive Items policy as prohibiting antisemitic items, including items from after 1933 bearing a swastika. That report concerns eBay’s response and policy; it does not establish what every marketplace did or the status of every listing. Fast Company

Why the backlash had wider context
The storefront episode came after Ye’s public antisemitic remarks had already affected business relationships. In October 2022, Adidas announced that it was ending its partnership with him. The company said, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” and called his recent comments and actions unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, saying they violated its values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.
