Luanne and Lucky have not returned to the present-day story of the King of the Hill revival. Season 15 does acknowledge them in a flashback, and showrunner Saladin Patterson says the creative team is still deciding how best to handle the characters. He has not announced a present-day return.
What happened to Luanne and Lucky in season 15?
The season 15 finale refers to Luanne and Lucky in a flashback as the people Bobby would stay with while Hank and Peggy were away for years. It is a reference to their place in the characters’ past, not an appearance in the revival’s current timeline. The official Disney+ season guide also says Luanne does not return in season 15.

In a July 20, 2026 interview with ComicBook.com, Patterson said the team was “still figuring that out ourselves” and was considering what would be most satisfying without being shortsighted. He added that the team was “satisfied with being able to revisit in flashback at least them being a part of the show.” A future flashback is possible, but he did not confirm one.
Why hasn’t the revival recast them?
Patterson has said recasting is difficult because Luanne and Lucky were so closely associated with the performances of Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty, both of whom have died. He questioned whether new performances could recapture what audiences valued about the characters.

In a 2025 interview with ComicBook.com, Patterson compared the decision to retiring a player’s jersey: a way to honor what someone meant to the organization. He said the team had found other ways in the story to honor certain characters rather than recast them. He gave a similar explanation in a 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, saying that leaving Luanne and Lucky unrecast felt like the best choice.
