In June 2023, Karl Stefanovic joked that “everyone’s got a phone in Noosa” while discussing how quickly news travels in the Queensland town. The remark, made during a conversation with Daily Telegraph UK associate editor Camilla Tominey, alluded to the January incident involving former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke, Jade Yarbrough and Stefanovic.
What Stefanovic said on air
PerthNow reported on 9 June 2023 that Tominey was talking about Noosa and the speed with which news can spread there when Stefanovic replied: “You’re 100 per cent right about Noosa as well, I mean everyone’s got a phone in Noosa,” he said, laughing. PerthNow reported the exchange as an oblique reference to the January incident, rather than a detailed account of it.
Today co-host Sarah Abo then quipped, “Clearly Camilla doesn’t read the Australian tabloids,” before adding, “We’ll educate her a bit later on shall we.” The exchange was brief; Stefanovic did not explain the incident on air in detail.
What happened in Noosaville in January 2023
On 10 January, Queensland Police said they were investigating an incident depicted in footage at Lions Park on Gympie Terrace in Noosaville. ABC News reported on 20 January that the footage appeared to show Yarbrough accusing Clarke of infidelity, which Clarke denied, while Stefanovic attempted to calm the situation. The police statement confirmed an investigation, not a charge or finding.

- ALL-WEATHER MATCH BALL – Made to provide an impressive level of performance during wet-weather Aussie Rules football matches, this AFL game ball’s outer panels are manufactured from synthetic leather. This high-quality material creates an AFL game ball which will not absorb liquids, making it suitable for use on water logged pitches.

- 100% HAND STITCHED – To negate the risk of potential panel separation, this AFL Football’s stitching is done by hand. This premium finish creates a tightly-bound Aussie Rules football which will maintain a consistent ball flight regardless of how many times it is used.
A police spokeswoman told ABC News: “Queensland Police are investigating an incident between a 30-year-old woman and 41-year-old man depicted in footage at Lions Park on Gympie Terrace in Noosaville earlier this month.” The spokeswoman added: “As this matter on January 10, 2023, is under investigation the Queensland Police Service is unable to provide any further comment.” ABC News’ contemporaneous report also said Clarke apologised, describing his actions as “shameful and regrettable.”

The June television joke should not be confused with Clarke’s later interview about the incident or Stefanovic’s later comments on their relationship. In a subsequent Nine A Current Affair interview, Clarke spoke about the effect of scrutiny on others involved: “A lot of people are involved, you know, there’s other families, there’s friends,” he said, adding, “I think it’s always important that you do your best to try and respect that as well.” Nine’s A Current Affair published the interview.

In a later report about whether Stefanovic and Clarke had reconciled, OverSixty quoted Stefanovic saying: “Kyle, it’s like a sticker. You rip it off but it’s still there.” The outlet reported that he indicated peace had not yet been brokered between them. OverSixty covered that later exchange; it was not part of the June 2023 conversation with Tominey.
