The reporting reviewed here does not establish that they dated. In August 2016, Jenner and Tyler were seen having dinner at The Cheesecake Factory at The Grove in Los Angeles. Contemporary coverage placed friends Hailey Baldwin and Taco Bennett with them, so “group dinner” is more accurate than “confirmed date.” Some outlets nevertheless framed the outing as a date, which helped start the speculation. Why are Kendall Jenner and Tyler, the Creator linked?
The story became confusing because a group outing was interpreted as a date, then the pair joked about the interpretation publicly. On August 15–16, 2016, Jenner tweeted to Tyler, “apparently we’re dating.” He replied, “NOT POSSIBLE, WE’RE BOTH GAY.” The exchange was a joke about the rumor; it should not be treated as a definitive statement about either person’s sexuality or relationship status. ET noted that neither explicitly denied dating, while ELLE described them as good friends and the dinner as a group outing.

In August 2016 coverage of Vogue’s “73 Questions,” UPI reported that Jenner called Tyler her “friend” and named him as the person who made her laugh the most, without offering further detail about him. UPI’s report supports a friendship reading, not a dating confirmation.
The public record also includes more recent signs of an ongoing social connection. In a November 19, 2019 GQ video, Jenner calls Tyler “one of my favorite people,” and he replies, “I love Kendall.” The video transcript establishes what they said in that segment, not the nature of their private relationship. GQ’s video and transcript show their affectionate rapport.
ELLE’s retrospective timeline about Jenner and Bad Bunny reports that Jenner attended Tyler’s Los Angeles concert with Bad Bunny on April 26, 2023, and that she and Tyler walked together and laughed. That account is consistent with friendship, but it is secondary coverage and does not confirm romance. ELLE’s timeline recounts the concert appearance.
