How high did New Shepard go?
The Associated Press reported that NS-31 reached 66 miles (107 kilometers). That altitude and the brief period of weightlessness were part of a short suborbital passenger flight, not an extended stay in space.
Was it the first all-female spaceflight?
No. NS-31 was the first U.S. spaceflight with women filling every seat, according to the Associated Press. It was not the first all-female spaceflight in world history: Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova flew alone in 1963. That distinction matters because NS-31 carried six passengers, while Tereshkova’s earlier mission had a crew of one.

The milestone also came against a broader imbalance: the Associated Press reported on April 14, 2025, that women made up barely 15% of the more than 700 people who had traveled into space by then. That is a dated figure from the report, not a current total.
What did Katy Perry say after the flight?
After landing, Perry emphasized the group rather than her own celebrity: “It’s not about me. It’s not about singing my songs,” she said, according to the Associated Press. “It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us.” At a later news conference, she added: “We weren’t just taking up space. We were making space for the future.”
