Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith called the arrangement “groundbreaking” because it put all three children at one school. It was a past arrangement: by September 2026, George had started at Eton, while Charlotte and Louis remained at Lambrook, according to later reports.
What was the reported decision?
An August 27, 2025, AOL article said William and Catherine chose Lambrook, a co-educational school, so all three children could attend together. That account describes the reported choice; it is not a public explanation from the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the article’s description of Lambrook was not independently confirmed through the school’s own records.
The decision drew attention because it presented the siblings’ shared school as a notable choice for the royal family. The available account does not establish what considerations the parents weighed or whether attending together was their principal reason for choosing Lambrook.
Why was it called “groundbreaking”?
Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, quoted by AOL as speaking to People, interpreted the choice as part of a more modern approach. She said, “That chimes with William wanting to do things in a more modern way, putting all three children in the same school,” and called it “a new direction—groundbreaking for the royal family.” These are Smith’s views as reported in the article, not a statement of the parents’ own motives.

Do the children still attend the same school?
No. The same-school arrangement described in 2025 is no longer current. ABC News reported in July 2026 that George was due to start at Eton in September, while Charlotte and Louis attended Lambrook. A Marie Claire report in September 2026 said George had officially started at Eton.

What is known about the younger children’s future schools?
Marie Claire reported that Charlotte and Louis’s future secondary-school placements remained unclear. Its article quoted Hello! royal editor Emily Nash, who described the family’s approach as choosing a school for each child individually: “I think what William and Catherine have done is they’ve chosen the school that is right for [Prince George], and they’ll choose the school that’s right for each individual child.” That is Nash’s characterization, not confirmation of private discussions or a stated plan for Charlotte and Louis.
