Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, announced on Feb. 9, 2025, that he was logging out of X after days of antisemitic posts that included praise for Hitler and a declaration that he was a Nazi. His account appeared deactivated the next day, but contemporaneous reporting did not establish whether Ye deactivated it or X did. A later report said the account had returned with a sensitive-content warning.
What happened to Kanye West’s X account?
On Feb. 7, 2025, Ye posted a series of antisemitic statements on X, including praise for Adolf Hitler and a declaration that he was a Nazi, according to Axios. Jewish and civil-rights organizations condemned the posts.
Ye continued posting during Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, including criticism of Taylor Swift. Later that day, he said he was logging out and thanked X owner Elon Musk for letting him use the platform to vent. On Feb. 10, news outlets described the account as apparently deactivated.
What did Ye say about Taylor Swift?
Swift was at the Super Bowl supporting Travis Kelce. The Independent reported that Ye questioned why she was shown on television and characterized her song as being about “taking a Black man down,” then accused her of making claims that could seriously harm a Black man. His post was part of the stream of messages he published during the game, not a separate account-status announcement. Why did Kanye West say he was leaving X?
Ye’s final message said he was logging out and described using the platform as cathartic. As reported by The Independent, he wrote: “I’m logging out of Twitter. I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board.” He also compared the experience to an ayahuasca trip and signed off.
The message established that Ye publicly announced his departure; it did not establish who later deactivated the profile. The Los Angeles Times reported the account appeared deactivated on Feb. 10 and quoted Ye thanking Musk for allowing him to vent. Los Angeles Times, Feb. 10, 2025.

Was Kanye West banned from X?
The contemporaneous reporting does not confirm a ban. TheWrap said it was unclear whether Ye deactivated the account himself or X took action, and that X had not immediately responded to a request for comment. Its account of the uncertainty is important: the profile’s disappearance alone does not show that the platform suspended or banned him. TheWrap, Feb. 10, 2025.
Did the account stay deactivated?
No. LBC reported on Feb. 13, 2025, that the account had returned and displayed a sensitive-content warning. That article was updated in February 2026; it does not verify the profile’s live status on Oct. 8, 2026. LBC’s report documents the return, not a current status check.

Context around the antisemitic posts
Axios reported that an analysis by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, found reported anti-Jewish hate crimes to police across 20 major U.S. cities rose 48% in 2023 compared with 2022. Axios said the analysis was shared with it. That statistic provides broader context; it does not show that Ye’s posts caused the increase. Axios.
