What the source actually said
Glamour’s timeline attributes the characterization that Lopez and Affleck “still want to put the kids first” to an unnamed source speaking to PEOPLE. The same source reportedly described them as “very family-oriented.” Neither phrase was a direct quote from Lopez or Affleck, and the source was not named. Glamour’s timeline presents the comments as anonymous-source reporting.
A contemporaneous Yahoo page carrying PEOPLE reporting also frames the claim as a source’s account. It refers to the graduation and to a later appearance at Affleck’s son Samuel’s basketball game. Those reported family outings are public events; they do not independently establish what either person privately intended.
Which children the report referred to
Lopez and Affleck did not have children together. The blended-family context involved five children from their previous relationships: Lopez’s twins with Marc Anthony and Affleck’s three children with Jennifer Garner, as summarized by Capital XTRA.

The report’s language about putting “the kids” first therefore referred to a family with children connected to each former spouse, not to children they shared as a couple. The cited public appearances do not establish a custody arrangement or explain how the family handled private decisions.
What happened after the May 2024 report
The comments belong to a specific point in the couple’s timeline. According to Glamour’s timeline, Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024; the divorce was finalized on January 6, 2025; and they were legally single by February 21, 2025. The May report cannot be used to describe their present relationship or arrangements for the children.

Affleck’s on-record description of compromise
In the 2024 documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Affleck described the pair as “two people with different kinds of approaches trying to learn to compromise,” as quoted by Glamour. That is an on-record description of their differing approaches. It offers context, but it does not explain the later divorce or verify the anonymous source’s account about the children.
