Judge Arun Subramanian dismissed Juror No. 6 during Sean Combs’s 2025 federal criminal trial after conflicting answers about the juror’s residence raised concerns about candor and eligibility to serve. The judge rejected the defense’s objection and seated an alternate.
Which juror was dismissed, and when?
The juror was identified in court coverage as Juror No. 6; news reports did not identify him by name. The dispute arose during the sixth week of the federal trial in Manhattan. Subramanian announced the dismissal late on a Friday and upheld it on Monday, June 16, 2025, when an alternate took the juror’s place.
Why did the judge dismiss him?
The court examined inconsistent information about where the juror lived and with whom. During jury selection, he said he lived in the Bronx. A later conversation with court staff raised the possibility that he had moved in with his girlfriend in New Jersey. The conflicting answers prompted the court’s inquiry; coverage does not establish that he was a New Jersey resident.
Subramanian said the inconsistencies raised serious questions about the juror’s candor and whether he had shaded answers to get onto the jury and remain on it. As the Associated Press reported, the judge said: “The inconsistencies – where the juror has lived and with whom – go to straightforward issues as to which there should not have been any doubts, and the answers also go to something vital: the basic qualifications of a juror to serve.”

The stated concern was the conflicting answers and the juror’s basic qualifications. The reporting does not establish that the judge found the juror biased or concluded that he had pursued an improper agenda.
What did the defense argue?
Combs’s lawyers opposed removing the juror and sought a mistrial. They argued that replacing a Black juror with a white alternate late in the trial would change the jury’s racial makeup. That was the defense’s objection to the replacement, not the judge’s stated reason for dismissing the juror.

What happened after the ruling?
The alternate replaced Juror No. 6, and the trial continued. The juror dispute was separate from the case’s later outcome: in October 2025, the Associated Press reported that Subramanian sentenced Combs to four years and two months in prison, imposed a $500,000 fine, and ordered five years of supervised release.
