What is Maverick’s watch?
The watch is the Porsche Design Chronograph 1, a design associated with Cruise’s character in both Top Gun films. Porsche Design says a military chronograph from its 1970s line appeared on Cruise’s wrist in Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick (Porsche Design, 2024). Those sources support the Chronograph 1 identification, not a precise vintage reference number or a movement specification for the watch used on screen. A specific reference cited by a secondary watch-identification page is not independently confirmed by the official sources reviewed (Watch-ID).
Is it the same watch from the original Top Gun?
The films are linked by the Chronograph 1’s design lineage, but that does not establish that the exact same physical watch was used in both productions. The Chronograph 1 originated in 1972 as Porsche Design’s first product. Today’s Chronograph 1 editions are contemporary descendants of the historic design, not the vintage film watch. Porsche Design’s original-inspired Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition was limited to 500 pieces and sold out, according to the brand’s 2022 announcement. That release described the All Black Numbered Edition as a further-developed successor, with maximum production then announced at 1,000 watches per year worldwide. The same announcement gave it a price of €8,950; those are historical product and price statements, not current availability or pricing (Porsche Design, 2022).

What are the modern All Black edition’s specifications?

The brand says the watch is made at its in-house watchmaking facility in Solothurn, Switzerland (Porsche Design, 2022).
