Toji defeated the younger Satoru Gojo with a prepared ambush, not a fair fight: he used his lack of cursed energy to approach undetected, hid his weapons in a storage curse, and struck after Gojo had remained on alert through the escort mission. The episode explains Toji’s concealment strategy; the full technical details of how every defense was overcome are not established by the official summaries.
What happened before Toji attacked?
Gojo and Suguru Geto were assigned to escort Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel, during a mission that involved threats from Q and the Star Religious Group. The official episode 26 synopsis identifies those groups as threats to Amanai: episode 26 synopsis. In episode 27, after a hostage exchange complicates the mission, Gojo plans to take Amanai back to Jujutsu High. She insists on going to the meeting herself, and the group proceeds to the designated location: episode 27 synopsis.

That context matters: Toji’s attack comes after Gojo has been occupied with a prolonged, high-stakes escort and its changing security demands. It is an ambush shaped around the circumstances of the mission, rather than a neutral rematch between two rested opponents.
How did Toji hide from Gojo?
He had no cursed energy to give away his position
Toji explains that his lack of cursed energy made him difficult to detect. That absence was not simply a weakness: in this encounter, it helped him conceal his approach. The official character page identifies Toji as an assassin hired to kill Amanai and Gojo as a user of Limitless: official character profiles.

He concealed his weapons in a storage curse
Toji says he kept his cursed tools inside a storage curse, shrank the curse, and kept it inside his body. This let him carry an arsenal without openly displaying the tools as he approached. His explanation appears in the episode transcript, which is unofficial and may render the dialogue differently from licensed subtitles or a dub: official episode 28 synopsis and episode transcript.
He delayed using a cursed tool
Toji also explains why he did not bring a cursed tool into play immediately: its cursed energy could reveal his position, undermining the stealth plan. He waited until concealment had served its purpose before using a weapon. The key advantage was therefore not only what he carried, but when he let it become detectable.

Was Gojo already at a disadvantage?
The story presents Gojo as having remained vigilant through the escort, while Toji chose the timing and conditions of his attack. Reading Gojo’s fatigue as part of Toji’s advantage is a narrative inference from that setup; it should not be confused with a separate technical explanation that the official synopsis spells out. The transcript supports Toji’s stealth and concealed-weapon plan, while the official episode summaries establish the surrounding events.
Did Toji bypass Infinity?
The official character page identifies Gojo as a Limitless user, but the official episode summaries do not give a blow-by-blow account of how each defensive technique is overcome. Toji’s stated approach explains how he concealed himself and his weapons; it does not establish that he permanently bypassed every aspect of Gojo’s technique. A detailed account of the exact mechanics would require directly verified scene or manga evidence beyond what these sources establish.

What does Toji’s victory prove?
After the attack, Toji appears before Geto and declares, “五条悟は俺が殺した”—that he killed Satoru Gojo. The line and the following confrontation are in the official episode 28 synopsis: episode 28 synopsis. The scene shows the result of Toji’s preparation and timing in this mission. It is not, on its own, proof that Toji would always defeat Gojo under different circumstances or that Gojo’s abilities are generally easy to overcome.
