Brenkus died on May 31, 2025. Brinx.TV’s statement, reported by the Los Angeles Times, said he had been battling depression and asked for privacy for his family and friends. It also encouraged people struggling with depression to seek help.
The statement said: “His heartbroken family and friends request privacy at this time, and encourage anyone who is struggling with depression to seek help.”
Was a cause of death disclosed?
No specific cause of death was disclosed by the family, UPI reported. The statement’s reference to Brenkus battling depression does not establish a specific cause or manner of death, so those should not be inferred.

What was John Brenkus known for?
Brenkus was the co-creator and host of Sport Science, a television series that used experiments to examine sports performance and the human body. The Brinx.TV statement described the program as a six-time Emmy Award winner and identified Brenkus as a co-founder of BASE Productions and founder of Brinx.TV.
Sport Science on Fox Sports and ESPN
The series aired from 2007 to 2017. It began on Fox Sports and later appeared on ESPN in segment form. USA TODAY reported that Brenkus hosted nearly 1,800 segments; that figure is attributed to the outlet.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Brenkus grew up in Vienna, Virginia, and participated in multiple Ironman triathlons.
