The trailer is for John Candy: I Like Me, a documentary directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Ryan Reynolds. Its most affecting moment comes when Bill Murray recalls Candy as his friend and becomes emotional while looking at his face. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025 and is now streaming on Amazon Prime, subject to local availability.
What happens in the trailer?
Murray says, “I can’t tell you what was right about John Candy, or what was wrong. But he was my friend.” He then continues, “And … I don’t wanna cry, but when you see him, when you see his face…” Global News describes Murray beginning to tear up. The moment gives the trailer its emotional center: it is a friend remembering someone he misses, rather than a conventional career tribute.
The trailer also points toward the documentary’s wider scope. It includes glimpses of Candy’s Toronto childhood and family recollections, alongside archival footage and imagery. Global News reports that the film includes never-before-seen home videos and Cynthia Erivo recording “Every Time You Go Away.” Global News’ trailer report describes these elements.
