Jon Moxley is reported to remain under contract with AEW through 2027. The current reporting reviewed does not confirm a WWE return or a reunion of The Shield with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. The contract extension dates to 2022, so it is not a new signing announced in 2026.
What is known about Jon Moxley’s AEW contract?
Sports Illustrated reported on October 12, 2022, that AEW had announced a five-year contract for Moxley, keeping him with the promotion through 2027. The deal also expanded his role to include coaching and mentoring. In that 2022 interview, Moxley told Justin Barrasso, “I don’t plan on going anywhere else.” Sports Illustrated

Is Jon Moxley returning to WWE for a Shield reunion?
No WWE return or full Shield reunion is confirmed in the reporting reviewed. Moxley, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins were the original Shield trio, which helps explain continued fan interest, but nostalgia and storyline callbacks are not evidence of a current plan.

What did AEW say about the WrestleMania 40 rumor?
In April 2024, AEW President Tony Khan told ComicBook.com that WWE had not contacted AEW about using Moxley for a one-off appearance at WrestleMania 40. What has Moxley said about a possible WWE return?
In a January 2021 Bleacher Report AMA, Moxley gave a conditional answer: “You gotta say never say never, because you don’t want to run back what you said years later because you don’t know what’ll happen.” He added that he would take a phone call but highly doubted anything would materialize. Those comments are several years old and do not indicate current negotiations. Bleacher Report
