John Fury’s son Shane said the confrontation with Carl Froch stemmed from Froch’s online comments about the Fury family. That is the explanation reported after the incident, not independent confirmation of John Fury’s private motive.
What reportedly prompted the confrontation?
After the press event, Shane Fury said Froch had spoken about someone online and should expect a response in person. NaijaWhisper quoted him saying: “It seems to me that you can talk about someone online in your videos, but not expect someone to say something when you see them.” NaijaWhisper’s February 17, 2026 report attributed that explanation to Shane; it did not establish John’s motive independently.
What happened at the press event?
NaijaWhisper reported that the exchange took place around a press conference at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Tyson Fury and Arslanbek Makhmudov. John Fury approached Froch, who was working as a Netflix pundit, and shouted challenges. The report also says Fury addressed Lennox Lewis, security led him away, and Froch was removed from the remainder of the broadcast.
The account describes a verbal outburst and security intervention. It does not establish that a physical fight took place.

What was the background to their dispute?
The same report says Froch had criticized Tyson Fury’s record before Tyson’s first fight with Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, arguing that many of Tyson’s opponents “weren’t that good.” John Fury objected and threatened to confront Froch, who responded in a video. The report also points to Froch’s criticism of John’s presence in Tyson’s camp and his corner work during Tyson’s May 2024 loss to Usyk. This is the outlet’s account of the dispute’s background, not a complete or independently adjudicated history.
Was a John Fury–Carl Froch fight discussed later?
Yes. A June 12, 2026 SPORTbible report described competing claims about a possible bout. John Fury told Pro Boxing Fans that he requested £2.5 million and was offered £1 million, saying: “By the time I pay tax and everybody else, it’s not enough.” These are his reported statements about proposed fight terms, not verified contract figures.

SPORTbible also quoted Froch from his YouTube channel saying Fury made unreasonable demands, including trying to have Tommy Fury fight first, and accusing him of using that as a blockade. The outlet reported the two sides’ claims; it did not independently verify contract terms. The proposed bout is separate from the press-event confrontation.
