Joey King said it was “unfortunate” that Jacob Elordi felt negatively about The Kissing Booth, while adding that she had enjoyed making the films. Her response, reported in December 2023, described her own experience; it did not establish a personal feud between the former co-stars.
What Joey King said about Elordi’s criticism
In a Variety interview reported by Teen Vogue on December 5, 2023, King responded to Elordi’s remarks about the franchise: “I think it’s unfortunate anyone would feel that way. I had a great time making those movies no matter what anyone says.”
Her answer was measured: she expressed regret that he viewed the films that way and said she had a positive time making them. It was not a claim that the movies had the same meaning for both actors, or a dispute over an objectively verifiable fact.
What Jacob Elordi had said about the films
In a GQ interview, Elordi described the movies as “ridiculous” and “an escape,” according to Teen Vogue’s account of the exchange. Those words reflect his stated view of the franchise, not an objective assessment of its quality. The comments also appeared in the context of his career and his relationship to a widely recognized role.

King and Elordi played Elle Evans and Noah Flynn, respectively. The three films arrived in 2018, 2020, and 2021. Netflix’s franchise guide describes them as inspired by characters from Beth Reekles’ 2012 young-adult novel The Kissing Booth.
The 2020 exchange was a separate moment
King’s 2023 comment is distinct from a brief exchange in August 2020, when Elordi said he had not watched The Kissing Booth 2. The Los Angeles Times reported that King responded on social media: “Jacob watched it. He’s capping.” That earlier post concerned whether he had seen the sequel; it should not be treated as her response to his later criticism of the films.
