But the available contemporaneous account does not establish that the studio audience went silent, and Reeves himself left the cause open—asking whether it was a ghost or a strange floating jacket.
What Keanu Reeves described
Reeves recounted the memory during a 2014 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He said he was about six or seven years old and living in New York when he saw an empty jacket wave through a doorway and then vanish. His nanny was there, according to ABC News’s account of the story.
Reeves did not present the experience as proof of a haunting. He wondered aloud: “Was that a ghost? Or just some weird floating jacket?” The anecdote preserves that uncertainty; it does not establish what caused the jacket to move.
