Jim Belushi and Jennifer Sloan’s 2018 divorce case was dismissed in 2019 after Belushi asked the court to end it. A report at the time, citing an unnamed source close to Belushi, said the couple had reconciled. That explains why the case did not proceed then; it does not mean they stayed married. Belushi later said they had divorced.
What happened to Jim Belushi and Jennifer Sloan’s divorce case?
Sloan filed for dissolution in Los Angeles on March 5, 2018, after nearly 20 years of marriage. Entertainment Tonight reported that she sought joint custody of their minor son, spousal support and legal fees. The documents ET reviewed did not state a separation date. TMZ reported that Sloan cited “irreconcilable differences,” the legal grounds stated in the filing. That phrase does not identify a particular conflict or explain the couple’s private circumstances. TMZ’s report on the case
On May 1, 2019, Belushi requested that the divorce case be dismissed, and a judge approved the request, according to TMZ’s account of court records. The Blast also reported the dismissal. It cited a source close to Belushi who said the couple had reconciled and were back together. Neither spouse was directly quoted in that report explaining the decision. Why didn’t they proceed with the divorce then?
The best-supported explanation is that Belushi asked to dismiss the case after the couple reportedly reconciled. The reconciliation account came from an unnamed source cited by The Blast, rather than a direct public explanation from Belushi or Sloan. The court action is documented in the reporting; the personal reason for it is less certain.
The available reports do not establish what caused the marital conflict, what led to the reported reconciliation, or why the couple later separated. It would be speculation to attribute the filing or reconciliation to a specific incident or personal issue.
