Jessica Simpson’s 2025 Nashville Canyon releases mark a return to original music shaped by country, pop and Americana-leaning influences. The shift is less a clean break from her past than a more personal approach to it: Simpson has described the work as a “reset,” and a reported reference playlist ranged from Sister Rosetta Tharpe to Sierra Ferrell and Fred McDowell.
What Jessica Simpson released in 2025
Simpson released two five-song EPs under the Nashville Canyon title: Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 on March 21, 2025, and Nashville Canyon, Pt. 2 on September 5, 2025, according to her Apple Music artist catalog. The Grand Ole Opry describes the first EP as her return to original music after a long hiatus, with country and pop influences (Opry artist biography).

That release shape matters: this is not a single full-length album following the format of her earlier country era, but two compact collections issued months apart. The listings establish the dates and track counts; they do not, by themselves, establish how the songs performed commercially.
Why “Americana queen” is a framing, not a genre verdict
“Americana queen” is a vivid critical description, not an official classification for Simpson. Available reporting supports hearing Americana and rockabilly colors in the new material, alongside country and pop, but the evidence does not establish one definitive genre label.

#1 Best Overall
In a reported interview with Billboard, Simpson and her collaborators built a reference playlist that included Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Sierra Ferrell and Fred McDowell. Simpson said they were pursuing a musical “vibe” rather than starting from a hit-single brief, according to an excerpt republished by Radio 88.8. That range helps explain why the sound can be described as Americana-influenced without reducing it to a single tradition.
How the Nashville work differs from her earlier career
From pop-era expectations to a more personal process
Simpson’s career includes late-1990s pop releases and the country album Do You Know, released in 2008. Reflecting on earlier work, she has said that her direction followed pop trends and label expectations; that is her retrospective account, not an independently established description of every recording decision. The Los Angeles Times covered her move from Los Angeles to Nashville and the release of new music in February 2025.

In contrast, the reported account of the Nashville Canyon sessions emphasizes reference points and an exploratory feel rather than a predetermined single. Simpson told Parade, “Coming back to music is coming back home to myself,” in an August 1, 2025 interview (Parade interview). The quote captures her stated relationship to the project, rather than proving a particular production method or degree of control.
Country roots, with a wider palette
Do You Know already established a country chapter in Simpson’s discography, so the Nashville turn is not a first-time reinvention. The distinction is that the newer songs are discussed through a broader mix of country, pop, Americana and rockabilly references. The Opry’s account of her country career provides the earlier context; the interview-derived playlist offers a snapshot of the newer project’s reach.

Why Simpson calls it a reset
At a Fraze Pavilion Q&A on February 1, 2026, Simpson called Nashville her “spiritual home,” described the music as her “most honest and soul bearing” work, and characterized the creative period as a “reset,” not a comeback (Fraze Pavilion Q&A). That distinction avoids treating a return to recording as a simple attempt to recreate a former peak: her own framing centers on personal reconnection and a new creative period.

Start with Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 for the initial 2025 return, then hear Pt. 2 as the later installment. Both are listed in Simpson’s Apple Music catalog. For a longer view of the country precedent, compare them with Do You Know (2008), keeping in mind that the available sources establish its place in her career but do not make the newer EPs a direct continuation of that album’s sound.
