But that is not confirmation that Happy Death Day 3 has been greenlit: the studio decision remains outstanding in the available reporting.
Will there be a Happy Death Day 3?
A third film is a possibility, not a confirmed production. Reports describe interest from Rothe and creative progress from Landon, but do not establish studio approval, funding, filming, or a release date. The reported status of the project therefore falls short of a greenlight.
What Jessica Rothe has said about returning
Rothe, who plays Tree Gelbman, has expressed that she wants to come back and complete the character’s arc. SYFY Wire reproduces her statement: “whether it’s next year or when I’m 65, pulling a Jamie Lee Curtis coming back for Halloween, I will be there to finish Tree’s story.” Read SYFY Wire’s coverage of Rothe’s comments.
That quote is a clear expression of willingness, not a promise that a film will be made or that it will arrive by a particular date.

What is known about the third film’s story
Writer-director Christopher Landon reportedly has the story figured out for a potential third installment. The report describes story progress, but does not establish that a finished screenplay exists or that production has begun. No plot details are confirmed here.
How a third film would continue the series
The existing films are Happy Death Day (2017) and Happy Death Day 2U (2019), both centered on Rothe as Tree. The series’ two released entries provide the context for Rothe’s wish to finish Tree’s story, but the reporting does not confirm which cast members beyond her might return.

The key distinction is between creative intent and authorization. Rothe’s willingness and Landon’s reported story work are encouraging signs for fans, but a studio greenlight would be needed to establish that the project is officially moving ahead. Until an official announcement or equivalent confirmation appears, treat claims that the movie is filming or dated cautiously.
