The achievement Jennifer Lopez celebrated was starring in Kiss of the Spider Woman, a musical film rooted in a dream she traced back to childhood. At the film’s January 26, 2025, premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, she said, “I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life.”
What achievement was Lopez celebrating?
Lopez’s role as Ingrid Luna in Kiss of the Spider Woman brought her into a musical film—an ambition she said began when she watched West Side Story with her mother as a child. People en Español reported that the role fulfilled a dream she had held since childhood, while the Associated Press covered her remarks at the film’s Sundance premiere.

People en Español’s Spanish headline quoted Lopez: “He esperado este momento mi vida entera.” AP reported her English wording at the premiere as, “I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life.” These are the respective publications’ Spanish and English renderings; the English line should not be presented as a verbatim Spanish quotation.
Why did musicals matter to her?
Lopez connected her ambition to West Side Story, which her mother sat her down to watch on television at Thanksgiving. Recalling that she was dazzled by it, Lopez said she thought, “eso es lo que yo quiero hacer”—“that is what I want to do.” AP also described the film as an inspiration to become a performer.
