Jennifer Garner shared a cinnamon apple muffin adaptation on her Instagram #PretendCookingShow, based on Lindsay Ostrom’s Cinnamon Sugar Apple Cake from Pinch of Yum. The available coverage describes the ingredients and broad method, but does not give Garner’s exact quantities, yield, oven temperature, or muffin baking time.
What recipe did Jennifer Garner make?
Garner’s muffins were her take on Pinch of Yum’s Cinnamon Sugar Apple Cake, not a wholly original recipe. Shape’s July 29, 2022 report says she picked apples from her garden and adapted the cake batter for a muffin tin. Shape’s account of Garner’s video identifies the source recipe; Pinch of Yum’s original recipe remains published as a cake recipe.
PureWow later characterized the muffins as filled with apple chunks and finished with cinnamon-sugar crumble. That describes the result, but neither report supplies a complete, measured muffin recipe. PureWow’s retrospective coverage is another description of the adaptation.
What ingredients and steps were reported?
Shape lists brown sugar, oil, an egg, buttermilk, vanilla extract, baking soda, and flour among the ingredients Garner used. She mixed the batter, folded in chopped apples with salt and cinnamon, portioned it into a greased muffin tin, added cinnamon-sugar topping, and baked it.

The reporting does not give ingredient amounts, the number of muffins, or the full sequence and timing. It therefore supports a description of what Garner showed—not a reproducible recipe with reliable measurements.
Can you follow the exact muffin recipe from the coverage?
No. Shape’s report does not state Garner’s quantities, oven temperature, baking duration, yield, or complete instructions. Without those details, guessing would risk producing muffins unlike the ones shown.

Pinch of Yum’s cake page lists quantities for the cake—1½ cups brown sugar, ⅓ cup oil, 1 egg, 1 cup buttermilk (or milk plus vinegar), 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2½ cups flour, and 2½ cups chopped apples. Those are the cake’s published quantities, not confirmed measurements for Garner’s muffin adaptation.
Why not use the cake’s baking directions for the muffins?
Pinch of Yum gives directions for baking its cake in a buttered 9×13-inch pan at 325°F for 45 minutes. The publisher says the cake can be made in muffin form with less baking time, but does not specify a muffin time on that page. Those cake directions do not establish Garner’s oven setting or bake time, so they should not be presented as her muffin instructions.

What did Garner say about the muffins?
Shape reproduced the caption Garner posted with the video: “Two lessons here! 1:) Hiccup cure = hold breath, draw pig. 🐷✍️ Number 2:) Apple muffins are delicious any time. 🍎♥️” This was the caption reported by Shape, not a quote from spoken narration.
