Jennifer Jason Leigh’s son, Rohmer, was born in 2010, when she was 48, according to The Guardian. Leigh has said that the timing felt right for her: at 20, she wanted to work and travel, and she later felt ready for the selflessness of parenting. Her account is personal, not a prescription for when anyone else should become a parent.
What Jennifer Jason Leigh has said about becoming a mother at 48
In a 2016 interview with Grazia Italia, Leigh recalled that she was not ready for a baby at 20. “At 20 I wanted to work and travel, I wasn’t ready for a baby,” she said. She also described the timing of motherhood as individual: “The desire for motherhood presents itself when the time is right for you, and it’s not the same for everyone.”

That distinction matters: Leigh has not said that her career caused her to become a mother later. She described her earlier priorities and readiness in her own terms, without presenting them as a general rule.
Why the timing felt right to her
In a 2018 interview with The Guardian, Leigh reflected on the experience of becoming a mother later in life: “It’s been ideal, in a certain way. You’re ready to be selfless. You’ve had enough time for yourself.” Her comment describes what felt right for her after having time to pursue her own life; it does not establish that every parent experiences later motherhood the same way.

- Jason Statham stars in "The Beekeeper," a heart-pounding action-thriller about a mysterious Beekeeper.
- Adam Clay (Statham), a former operative of a powerful organization known as Beekeepers, upends his covert life and embarks on a brutal revenge mission to dismantle corruption at the highest levels of our society.
- The stellar cast also includes Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad and Jeremy Iron, amongst others.
Leigh also spoke about the depth of her feelings for her child, telling The Guardian that having a child changes one’s understanding of love. That broader reflection sits alongside her more specific point about timing: motherhood became right for her when she felt ready.
What is known about her family life
The Guardian reported in 2018 that Leigh has one child, Rohmer, and that she and his father, filmmaker Noah Baumbach, share parenting. Biography.com reports that Leigh and Baumbach filed for divorce in 2010, months after Rohmer’s birth, and that the divorce was finalized in 2013. Those details provide a brief timeline, but the public accounts do not warrant speculation about the family’s private life.
In a 2016 interview with The Guardian, Leigh discussed spending time with her son behind the scenes. Separately, CBS News reported that she wanted to make a film her son and nieces could watch. These glimpses show how she has spoken about bringing motherhood into her life and work, but they do not show that parenthood caused a career change.

The cited interviews and biographical reporting establish Rohmer’s birth year and Leigh’s reflections on timing. They do not establish whether she used fertility treatment, whether there were pregnancy complications, or details of the pregnancy or birth. Those matters should not be inferred from her age or from the fact that she became a mother at 48.
