Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd’s characters encounter a unicorn in Death of a Unicorn, A24’s 2025 feature written and directed by Alex Scharfman. The film’s official trailer, released December 18, 2024, introduced a story in which a father and daughter accidentally hit the mythical creature—and their discovery attracts the attention of a billionaire seeking its curative properties.
What happens in Death of a Unicorn?
A24’s official synopsis describes a father, played by Paul Rudd, and his daughter, played by Jenna Ortega, accidentally hitting and killing a unicorn while driving to a weekend retreat. Their destination is the home of the father’s billionaire boss, played by Richard E. Grant, who wants to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties. That premise puts the discovery—and the question of who benefits from it—at the center of the film.
The trailer reveals the film’s mythical-creature setup without requiring viewers to know more about the plot. A24 identifies Alex Scharfman as both writer and director. The official film page describes the premise; it does not establish further plot details beyond that synopsis.
