She endorsed Harris, urged people to vote, and defended Puerto Ricans after a comedian’s joke about the island at a Donald Trump rally. Reports describe Lopez holding back tears, but do not establish why she became emotional.
What happened at the rally?
Lopez spoke at the Harris-Walz campaign’s “When We Vote We Win” event at Craig Ranch Amphitheater in Las Vegas. The campaign program listed her as a speaker before Vice President Kamala Harris; Maná also performed. Pool reporting placed Lopez’s appearance at 9:02 p.m. PDT. The American Presidency Project’s October 31, 2024, pool report records the event and its program.
A Fox News video item published the following day described Lopez as holding back tears during her remarks. That supports describing her as visibly emotional, but it does not explain her private feelings or establish that she cried throughout the speech. Fox News’s video report documented the emotional moment.
What did Jennifer Lopez say?
She endorsed Harris and urged people to vote
Lopez tied the election to women’s political influence and participation. The Associated Press quoted her saying, “I believe in the power of women,” and, “Women have the power to make the difference in this election.” She also called the election choices “monumental,” according to The Boston Globe’s account of the rally.

She responded to the Puerto Rico joke
Four days earlier, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe had made a joke about Puerto Rico at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally. Lopez objected to the remark and its implications for Puerto Ricans and Latinos. The Associated Press quoted her saying, “You can’t even spell American without Rican,” followed by, “This is our country too.” The Associated Press report covered her remarks at the rally.
Lopez connected identity and political participation, telling the crowd, “I believe in the power of our community. I believe in the power of all our votes. I believe that together, we are the difference in this election,” as quoted by Spectrum News NY1.
