When Jelly Roll learned he had received his first Grammy nomination, he became emotional, according to a video published by Country Cast on November 10, 2023. The Recording Academy confirmed that day that he was nominated for Best New Artist and that “Save Me,” his collaboration with Lainey Wilson, was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
What happened when Jelly Roll learned he was nominated?
Country Cast published a video titled “Jelly Roll Breaks Down in Tears After Getting First Ever Grammy Nomination” on November 10, 2023. Its description says he became emotional after receiving the news and reports that he had not “cried this hard” since his father passed away. That phrase comes from the publisher’s description; it should not be treated as a verified transcript of the full exchange. Country Cast’s video

Why “first Grammy nomination” is a historical detail
The video’s “first ever” framing refers to Jelly Roll’s record when the nominations were announced in 2023. It does not describe his current Grammy history: his Recording Academy profile now includes later nominations and wins, alongside the 66th Awards nominations.
The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony took place on February 4, 2024. The Academy also included Jelly Roll among that year’s Best New Artist nominees in its recap of the GRAMMY House event on February 3, where nominees shared stories about their paths to the awards.
