Jon Bon Jovi was reportedly unsurprised by Richie Sambora’s apology for the way he left the band in 2013. In a May 2, 2024 report about Bon Jovi’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Yahoo Entertainment described the apology as Sambora’s attempt to bring speculation about his departure to an end. The report’s full article could not be accessed, so the response is best summarized rather than presented as a direct quotation.
What was Bon Jovi’s reaction to Sambora’s apology?
Yahoo Entertainment reported on May 2, 2024, that Bon Jovi was not surprised by Sambora’s apology, which appeared in the final episode of the four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. The report characterized the apology as an effort to stop speculation about Sambora’s 2013 exit. Because the full Yahoo article was unavailable, its exact wording and the details of the exchange on Stern’s show cannot be confirmed here.
What did Sambora apologize for?
Sambora left Bon Jovi while the band was touring in 2013. In the docuseries, he apologized to fans and the band for the way he departed and offered his account of the circumstances. That account should be understood as Sambora’s perspective, not as a mutually agreed explanation of the split.
MusicRadar’s May 6, 2024 coverage of footage Sambora released from the documentary discusses family responsibilities and tensions within the band as part of his account. The departure was revisited in the four-part series, which premiered in April 2024.

How did Bon Jovi describe their relationship separately?
In an Associated Press interview published April 23, 2024, Bon Jovi spoke about whether he and Sambora might perform together. He said, “We never had a big falling out. He quit 10 years ago. It’s not that we’re not in contact or anything like that, but he was choosing to, as a single dad, raise his child. The door is always open if he wants to come up and sing a song. I mean, there’s many of them that we co-wrote together. That’s a great part of both of our lives. There’s no animosity here.”
Those comments provide context about Bon Jovi’s public view of the relationship, but they were made in a different interview and should not be mistaken for his specific response to the apology on The Howard Stern Show.
