The dog-importation charges were dropped after her plea. Johnny Depp was in Australia filming, but the sources do not say that he was charged.
Why were Pistol and Boo in Australia?
Heard brought the Yorkshire terriers to Australia while Depp was filming on the Gold Coast, ABC reported in July 2015. The case concerned the dogs’ arrival and biosecurity, not COVID-era human quarantine.
What happened to the dogs?
The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions says a biosecurity officer visited a Gold Coast property on 13 May 2015, found the dogs and ordered them into quarantine. In 2023, the Associated Press reported retrospectively that Heard had been given 50 hours to remove them or face euthanasia. That was a deadline reported in this case, not a statement of a general rule for animal arrivals.
ABC reported on 16 July 2015 that Heard had been summoned over the dogs’ arrival. The official prosecution account and contemporary court reporting later establish the court outcome.

What did Amber Heard plead guilty to?
On 18 April 2016, Heard appeared in Southport Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to knowingly producing a false or misleading incoming passenger card. The charge was under section 137.2(1) of the Commonwealth Criminal Code, according to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions’ media statement.
This was a document offence. It should not be described as a guilty plea to illegally importing the dogs: ABC’s contemporaneous court report says the dog-importation charges were dropped after the plea.
