Jimmy Kimmel became emotional on the Jan. 13, 2025, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as he spoke about the frightening week of Southern California wildfires, losses among his colleagues and neighbors, and the help Angelenos were giving one another. He also thanked the firefighters, emergency workers and other people responding to the crisis.
What Kimmel said in the monologue
Kimmel returned to the show’s Hollywood studio after it had been evacuated the previous Wednesday. He described the week as “very scary, very stressful, very strange” for the place where he and his colleagues worked, lived and sent their children to school, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.
He said some of his coworkers had lost their homes. The monologue then turned to the ways people were helping each other, including residents who had lost their own homes but volunteered to assist others. “People who lost their own homes were out volunteering in parking lots helping others who lost theirs,” Kimmel said, as quoted by ABC News / Good Morning America.
Who Kimmel thanked
Kimmel expressed gratitude to the people working through the emergency, naming local firefighters as well as firefighters who had come from other states and countries. He also thanked police, National Guard members, rescue workers, doctors, nurses, EMTs and pilots working long shifts. “Thank God for all of you,” he said, according to ABC News / Good Morning America.

The show’s temporary donation center
Jimmy Kimmel Live! organized a donation center on the show’s Hollywood backlot. ABC7 reported that the collection effort was scheduled to run through Jan. 17, 2025. That window has passed, so the report is a record of a short-term response rather than an active donation option.
