What Curtis meant by “a minute away”
At the Freakier Friday premiere in July 2025, Curtis told Entertainment Tonight: “We’re a minute away. But yeah, very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work.” The remarks were reported by Us Weekly and TV Insider.
The timing is important: the comment preceded the film’s later public announcement. “A minute away” expressed Curtis’s excitement, but does not establish that filming was imminent then—or that it is imminent now.
When does the film come out?
Universal Pictures currently lists Murder, She Wrote for theaters on February 4, 2028. An earlier date reported in March 2026 was December 22, 2027; the studio’s current listing supersedes that earlier report. Release schedules can change, so the studio’s listing is the best place to check for updates.

What is confirmed about the adaptation?
Curtis is reported to play Jessica Fletcher, the mystery writer and amateur detective Angela Lansbury made famous in the CBS series. Jason Moore is reported as director, with Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo writing the film.
The sources reporting the project have not established its full cast, plot, or production schedule. They also do not confirm whether the film will return to Cabot Cove, the fictional Maine town central to the television series. Those details should not be treated as settled.

The original Murder, She Wrote starred Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher and ran on CBS for 12 seasons, from 1984 to 1996. Curtis’s reported casting makes the film a new portrayal of the character, rather than a continuation featuring Lansbury, who died in 2022.
Lansbury once objected to an earlier proposed television reboot using the title, saying: “I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote because Murder, She Wrote will always be about Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person.” That comment concerned the earlier reboot proposal, not the current film; it should not be read as a response to or endorsement of this adaptation.
