Why did earlier reports give a different length?
Before the final figure was confirmed, Gunn described the movie as “well under three hours… Under two and a half.” That was an upper limit, not a precise runtime. ComicBook.com reported the remark in 2024.
A separate 122-minute figure—2 hours and 2 minutes—circulated before the June 2025 confirmation. Gunn’s later 129-minute figure superseded that earlier speculation, as ComicBook.com noted.

Did Warner Bros. make Gunn shorten the film?
Gunn denied that Warner Bros. had required him to shorten Superman. As reported by Variety, he said, “Zero truth to that,” adding that the studio “couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to [do]. It’s a DC Studios film.” Those are Gunn’s statements about the rumor and studio authority, not independent confirmation of the companies’ internal decision-making.
