In late November and early December 2024, Jack Schlossberg posted about heartbreak on TikTok, shared a video singing a Chris Cagle song, and then posted an Instagram carousel that reportedly included a shirtless mirror selfie. Coverage called the selfie a “thirst trap,” but the reports do not establish that this was Schlossberg’s intent.
What Schlossberg said about heartbreak
People and AOL and What’s Trending reported that Schlossberg discussed being broken up with in a TikTok posted on Thanksgiving, November 28, 2024. He was quoted as saying, “Heartbreak sucks. Getting broken up with sucks. It’s the worst.” He also described the feeling as “mourning someone who’s alive.” People/AOL and What’s Trending covered the remarks.
In People’s account, Schlossberg said his father, Edwin Schlossberg, had told him that breakups are “always mutual.” That is Jack’s reported account of his father’s advice; it is not a statement independently attributed to Edwin.

Why coverage called the selfie a “thirst trap”
The phrase appears in coverage as a characterization of the December 1 mirror selfie. The reported chronology places the image after Schlossberg’s public remarks about heartbreak, but neither that sequence nor the photo establishes why he posted it. It is more precise to describe the reported image and attribute “thirst trap” to coverage than to present the label as Schlossberg’s stated purpose.
