It (2017) is Andy Muschietti’s horror film about seven children in a small Maine town who confront bullying, grief and fear alongside a supernatural entity that often appears as a clown. Based on Stephen King’s novel, the film is also known as IT – Part 1: The Losers’ Club.

The story follows the Losers Club, a group of children in a small Maine town. They face ordinary dangers—including bullies and personal troubles—while a monster that takes the shape of a clown terrorizes the community. When Bill’s younger brother goes missing and other children encounter the entity, Bill and his friends decide to face it.

Who plays Pennywise in It?
Bill Skarsgård plays Pennywise, the clown form taken by the entity. The young ensemble includes Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Nicholas Hamilton and Jackson Robert Scott. Warner Bros. Who directed It, and when was it released?
Andy Muschietti directed the 2017 feature. Stephen King wrote the source novel; Chase Palmer, David Kajganich and Gary Dauberman are credited as screenwriters. Stephen King’s official film listing gives the theatrical release date as September 8, 2017 and titles the film IT – Part 1: The Losers’ Club.
Is It (2017) based on a book?
Yes. It is based on Stephen King’s novel It. The film’s premise centers on the Losers Club as children; that does not mean the movie adapts every part of the novel. King’s official listing identifies the book as the source.

Is It (2017) the same as the 1990 miniseries or the 2019 sequel?
No. This title refers specifically to Muschietti’s 2017 feature. It is distinct from the 1990 television miniseries and from It Chapter Two (2019), the later sequel.
