But its sprawling ensemble does not always add up to a focused drama. The season is strongest when it stays close to Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris, and less convincing when its side stories pull attention away from him. That makes it an uneven watch—not proof that the series is a failed Yellowstone replacement, since it is a separate show with its own subject and aims.
Landman Season 2 review: Does the drama hold together?
The clearest weakness is the season’s distribution of attention. Tommy’s central story gives the drama a sturdy anchor, but the surrounding storylines do not always feel equally developed or tightly connected to it. When the ensemble expands without strengthening that main conflict, the show can feel diffuse rather than richly layered.

That unevenness is reflected in one outside assessment, not a broad critical consensus. In its January 18, 2026 finale review, Tom’s Guide judged that the season struggled to support weaker storylines even as Tommy Norris’s drama remained a strength. The review called the penultimate episode a low point and praised the finale. That mixed verdict captures the season’s uneven shape without settling the question for every viewer.
Why the Yellowstone comparison only goes so far
Calling Landman a “Yellowstone replacement” is a useful way to describe expectations for Taylor Sheridan’s latest drama, but not its actual relationship to that series. Landman is a separate show set in the modern West Texas oil industry, not a Yellowstone continuation. A fair comparison is about dramatic execution: does it build a coherent central conflict, connect its ensemble to that conflict, make its setting matter, and balance family drama, business and violence?
#1 Best Overall
On those measures, Season 2 is mixed. Tommy’s story supplies a clear center, while the supporting material can dilute the momentum. The setting gives the series a distinct world, but its presence alone cannot make every subplot feel essential. The result is less a clean successor to another neo-Western than a show still negotiating how much room its different modes can share.
What Season 2 does well
Billy Bob Thornton anchors the story
Tommy Norris is the season’s most reliable point of focus. Thornton’s central performance gives the business pressures and family tensions a human center, and the strongest material is the drama that stays close to Tommy. The finale’s positive reception from Tom’s Guide is a useful counterpoint to the season’s weaker stretches: the run does find a stronger finish, even if the route there is uneven.

The oil-boom setting has a specific identity
Paramount describes the series as “Set in the boomtowns of West Texas, LANDMAN is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.” That premise makes the show’s world more specific than a generic story of wealth and power. Season 2’s ensemble includes oil-world figures such as Cami Miller and Galino alongside Tommy’s father, T.L. Norris, giving the drama several points of entry into that environment.
How many episodes are in Landman Season 2?
Season 2 has ten episodes. It premiered on November 16, 2025, and released episodes weekly through its finale on January 18, 2026. The season is a modern-day West Texas oil-industry drama centered on Tommy Norris and an ensemble that includes Cami Miller, Galino and T.L. Norris.

Paramount reported 9.2 million global streaming views for the Season 2 premiere in its first two days, in a November 20, 2025 release. This is the company’s own reported metric, not an independently audited figure. It should not be conflated with Paramount’s separate claim that the Season 1 premiere reached 35 million global streaming viewers over its first 90 days, November 17, 2024 through February 14, 2025: the seasons, terms and measurement windows differ.
