In reports by Shape and E!, Curtis’s direct advice is “Don’t mess with your face.” She addressed it to her daughters, Annie Guest and Ruby Guest, rather than presenting it as a rule for everyone.
Why does she say not to mess with your face?
Curtis has linked the advice to her own experience with plastic surgery and Botox. Her point is personal: she tried cosmetic procedures and says they did not work for her. That account explains her perspective; it is not medical guidance about what another person should or should not do.
She has also criticized pressure to look young and the use of filtered or manipulated celebrity images. As Shape reported in 2022, Curtis put her view of aging plainly: “Aging is what happens. We’re human.” In a 2022 summit discussion reported by The Independent, she described herself as “pro-ageing” and said she wanted to age “with intelligence and grace and dignity and verve and energy,” not hide from it.

What does her advice about beauty images mean?
E! reported that Curtis invited her daughters to compare a minimally styled image of her with a fully made-up one, and to consider the time, cost and people involved in creating the polished version. The example illustrates her concern that a finished celebrity image can conceal the work and artifice behind it.
Her broader advice about self-worth is related, but distinct from the specific instruction to her daughters. In a separate interview about advice to her younger self, Curtis said, “that you are enough,” and called comparison with others “an endless pursuit of unhappiness,” according to E!.

How has she discussed cosmetic procedures since?
A 2025 Guardian interview reported Curtis’s continued criticism of cosmetic procedures and pressure to look young. The profile says she had a procedure at 25 after someone commented that her eyes looked “baggy.” That is reported personal history, not evidence that the same experience or outcome applies to other people.
