Where to stream Source Code for free

Tubi lists Source Code in its Free Movies catalog, with a PG-13 rating and a runtime of 1 hour 33 minutes. That describes Tubi’s listing, not guaranteed access everywhere: streaming catalogs vary by country and may change. For example, Netflix’s UK listing says the film is not available in that country; that does not establish its availability on Netflix elsewhere.

If Tubi’s listing is unavailable in your territory, check the services available locally rather than assuming the same catalog applies worldwide. Apple TV also lists the film at 1 hour 33 minutes, though runtime listings can vary between platforms.

What is Source Code about?

Colter Stevens, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, wakes up on a commuter train in the body of a stranger, Sean Fentress. The train is about to explode. A government experiment sends Colter back into Sean’s identity for the final eight minutes of the journey, giving him repeated chances to identify the bomber and help prevent a larger attack.

Source Code - BLURAY
  • In an experimental government program, a soldier is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing with the woman he loves until he can determine who's responsible for it.

The familiar “time-loop movie” label works as shorthand, but the setup is more specific than a whole day resetting. The repeated interval is eight minutes on the train, and the story frames each return as part of the Source Code experiment. Google Play’s synopsis describes the program as letting Colter cross into another person’s identity during that person’s final eight minutes.

Why the premise suits a thriller

Each run gives Colter another opportunity to notice details, question passengers, and test a theory, while the short window keeps the investigation under pressure. The film combines a mystery—who caused the bombing?—with a science-fiction premise about identity and repeated experience. Its central engine is not simply restarting the same scene: what Colter learns affects how he approaches the next attempt.

Duncan Jones directed the film, with Michelle Monaghan as Christina Warren, Vera Farmiga as Colleen Goodwin, and Jeffrey Wright as Dr. Rutledge. Tubi and Apple TV identify it as a 2011 action/science-fiction film; the combination of a confined setting, ticking clock, and investigation makes it a natural pick for viewers looking for a compact, suspense-driven sci-fi story.

Is it really “underrated”?

“Underrated” is a judgment, not a measurable fact established by the available listings. The film’s durable appeal is easier to describe: it builds a thriller around a clearly defined eight-minute problem, then lets its protagonist use each attempt to investigate more intelligently. If you remember it as “the Jake Gyllenhaal train time-loop movie,” the title is Source Code.
