What Sony has confirmed
Sony Computer Entertainment America announced War of the Monsters for PlayStation 2 on January 14, 2003. The announcement described a monster-fighting game with destructible environments and two-player split-screen play. Sony’s 2003 announcement also described the split-screen view merging into one when opponents fought at close range.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s current US PlayStation Store listing is for a PS4 and PS5 edition released April 15, 2025. Sony identifies it as a conversion of the PS2 version and describes newly added features. The listing does not call it a remake. See the PlayStation Store listing.
What’s different about the PS4 and PS5 conversion?
The Store listing names four added features: up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. These additions apply to the listed conversion; they do not establish that Sony has rebuilt the game as a remake.

- Face off against a friend locally or join the fray with up to 64 players in the online lobby, including standard VS modes. Plus, dive deep on each team with the single player Episode Mode to learn more about team dynamics and lore.
The same listing describes the game as having 10 monsters and 13 destructible environments, along with weapons, counterattacks, and two-player play. Those are details of the game, not evidence of a separate remake edition.
What the latest announcement check says
PlayStation Blog’s June 2, 2026 State of Play roundup does not mention War of the Monsters. That only establishes that it was not included in that event’s roundup; it cannot rule out an announcement elsewhere or a future project.

The official sources cited here confirm the original PS2 game and the later PS4/PS5 conversion, but not a remake. That is not proof Sony will never make one, nor does it establish whether the company has unpublished plans or has made a statement outside the sources checked.
