Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood is a two-part docuseries that presents competing accounts of the dispute over Swift’s original recordings. Swift’s account, as summarized in that coverage, emphasized that she was not given the chance to buy the masters before their sale and that she chose to rerecord her albums so she could control new master recordings. Braun’s side framed the transaction as an acquisition of Big Machine and argued that Swift had an opportunity to purchase the masters. Those are opposing positions; the docuseries’ two-sided structure does not itself establish which disputed detail is correct.
When and where did the docuseries premiere?
Bad Blood premiered June 21, 2024. BGR reported a global premiere on Max and a UK premiere on Discovery+. That is release-era information, not confirmation that the series is still in either service’s catalog. Who owns Taylor Swift’s original masters now?
Swift announced on May 30, 2025, that she had bought her original masters from Shamrock Capital. In a letter published on her official website, she said the music she had made now belonged to her and described the support for her rerecorded albums and the Eras Tour as helping make the purchase possible. The Associated Press also reported her announcement and quoted her line: “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”
Swift said she had rerecorded four albums as “Taylor’s Version.” That project created new master recordings; her 2025 announcement concerned the return of the original masters. The distinction matters: rerecording gave her new versions to own and release, while the later purchase changed the ownership status of the original recordings.

What did Scooter Braun say about the outcome?
The Associated Press reported Braun’s response to Swift’s announcement as: “I am happy for her.” That brief reaction does not settle the competing accounts presented in the 2024 series; it is his reported response to the later ownership change.

The premise is two perspectives on a high-profile dispute, not an independent legal ruling. In announcing the project, WBD president Charlotte Reid said the conflict had brought “contract law from boardroom to social media and into public interest.” The series offers a way to follow how each side framed the events, while the subsequent purchase provides an important update to the question of who owns the original recordings today.
