Kelly Ripa became tearful on the February 5, 2025 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark as she and Mark Consuelos announced that their 17-year-old dog, Chewie, had died the previous day. Consuelos said Chewie’s health had declined, and that the family had arranged for a veterinarian to come to their New York City home for humane euthanasia.

Ripa and Consuelos opened the February 5, 2025 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark by sharing that Chewie had died on February 4. The Independent reported that Chewie was 17. Consuelos told viewers, “We had a rough day yesterday. We had to say goodbye to Chewie yesterday.” The Independent’s report described the couple’s announcement and conversation.
Consuelos said a veterinarian came to their New York City home to help the family say goodbye through humane euthanasia. Ripa grew emotional as they spoke about Chewie’s death. She said, “I thought I got it all out, guys. I really thought I got it all out and I apologize because this is not how I wanted this to go down.”

Consuelos said Chewie had been eating less for several weeks, then stopped eating for a couple of days. He also described her as extremely dehydrated and said she had neurological problems. The couple said they met Chewie through an adoption segment on Live in 2020. Ripa recalled that Chewie would not let family members kiss her face. After Chewie died, Ripa said, she kissed her dog’s face and nose.
