Arons made the remark in an excerpt from her memoir, published as a PEOPLE exclusive on June 3, 2025. Arons was Kate’s longtime friend and business partner. Her words are a retrospective account of what she understood about the couple’s relationship. They do not establish that Kate or Andy announced a specific reconciliation plan.
What did Andy Spade say about their separation in 2018?
In a statement reported by The Washington Post on June 6, 2018, Andy said he and Kate had lived separately for about 10 months. He said they were not legally separated, had never discussed divorce, and remained in regular contact. That 2018 account and Arons’s 2025 recollection both describe continued closeness or contact, but they come from different speakers and dates. Andy’s statement describes the circumstances as he presented them at the time; Arons’s memoir excerpt gives her later perspective. Neither should be treated as a direct account from Kate.

What did Andy say about Kate’s health?
In his 2018 statement, Andy said Kate had depression and anxiety, was seeking help, and was working with doctors. Those are his attributed remarks, not a complete clinical history. Kate died in New York on June 5, 2018, at age 55; contemporaneous reporting described her death as an apparent suicide. The available accounts do not establish that the couple’s separation or any single event caused her death.
