What happened before the song was released?
“Not Like Us” appeared during a rapid series of diss tracks between Lamar and Drake. The Associated Press timeline places Lamar’s “6:16 in LA” and Drake’s “Family Matters” on May 3, 2024. Lamar released “Meet the Grahams” on May 4, followed later that day by “Not Like Us,” produced by DJ Mustard, according to AP.
The songs included accusations traded by the artists. Those lyrical claims should be understood as allegations, not established facts: AP notes that diss tracks can contain exaggerated truths and unsubstantiated rumors.
