Kelly Monaco’s October 6, 2024, caption about her General Hospital departure said her exit “still doesn’t make any sense to me.” She had filmed her final episode on September 27 after the show decided to write out Sam McCall. Contemporary reports described the decision as coming from the network, but the sources cited here do not establish an official explanation from ABC or the show.
What did Kelly Monaco say about her exit?
On October 6, 2024, Monaco shared a behind-the-scenes photo from her last scenes with the actors playing the Davis family. Her caption read: “Last scene with the Davis girls. 😘🥲🙏🏻 still doesn’t make any sense to me.” Soap Opera Digest and TV Insider reported the post. The remark expressed her view of the departure; it did not explain the decision behind it.
Why did Kelly Monaco leave General Hospital?
Soap Opera Network reported on August 26, 2024, that the network had decided to terminate Sam’s character. The outlet said unnamed sources described Monaco as “blindsided.” That characterization is attributed reporting, not a direct statement from Monaco or an official account from ABC or General Hospital. The contemporary sources cited here do not provide a definitive public rationale for the decision.
TV Insider also reported that Monaco had responded to claims about a pay cut and retaliation in a since-deleted comment. She disputed the idea that Sam lacked a primary role, criticized changes to the character after Billy Miller’s departure, and wrote that she would give a “proper statement.” The report does not confirm that she later issued one, and her comment does not establish the claims about the reasons for her exit.
